Pinwheel Galaxy

22 March 2022

Since the success with the Rosette Nebula I am growing quite fond of multi-hour, multi-night images. Sure there is quite a difference in images per session compared to my first images several years back when I came home with 4 to 10 different images or compositions, but so is the quality.

This image of the Pinwheel Galaxy aka M101 or NGC 5457 was taken on the 22nd, 23rd, and 25th of march 2022. In total, I took 250 three-minute exposures and selected the best 80% of them.

Compared to the process described in my article about Rosette Nebula I let the WBPP script do the image integration over all nights and use the EZ Processing Suite for noise reduction.
